MILWAUKEE -- A 65-62 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Lakeland College Saturday night kept Alverno College's postseason hopes alive.

Gabby Hood registered her first career double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Inferno. Brooke McBain led all scorers with 17 and Mackenzie Mathies added 16 as the rookie drained four 3-pointers in the win.

Alverno led most of the first half and led by as many as 11 in the second quarter before the Muskies trimmed the lead to four at halftime.

Lakeland scored the final basket of the third quarter to take a 45-44 lead, the visitors' first since leading 7-5 early in the contest.

Down a point with 1:38 to play, McBain drilled a 3-pointer which put the Inferno on top for good. Hood made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch and also secured the final rebound on the Muskies' game-tying attempt with two seconds left.

Alverno dominated the glass with a 55-32 rebounding advantage.

With two games to play, the Inferno (12-11, 9-9 NACC) now trails the Muskies (12-11, 11-7) by two games in the conference standings for the sixth and final spot in the NACC Tournament. Alverno would need to win its final pair of games, and have Lakeland lose its final pair for the Inferno to earn the sixth seed.

Next up for Alverno is the final home game of the season against Benedictine University Tuesday evening. The game is also Senior Night, where the Inferno will honor seniors McBain and Julie Gallegos.
