Hamilton women wrap up 2015-16 season

Hamilton College's Sam Graber '16 moved into second place on the team's all-time scoring list but Amherst College emerged with a 55-38 NESCAC win against the Continentals in the regular-season finale for both teams at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Amherst (23-1, 9-1 NESCAC) is ranked sixth in the Division III Top 25 coaches poll and seventh in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. Amherst is ranked second in the Northeast Region by the NCAA.

Amherst finished in second place in the NESCAC standings and will host a 2016 NESCAC Championship quarterfinal as the No. 2 seed on Saturday, Feb. 20. The Continentals (8-16, 2-8) ended up in ninth place in the conference standings.

Graber scored 14 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, and handed out a game-high four assists in her final game with the Continentals. She moved past All-American Melissa Hart '89 and into second place on the team's all-time scoring list with 1,377 points on a 23-footer with 2:21 left in the fourth. Graber ended up in fifth place on the program's all-time list with 697 rebounds.

Lauren Getman '18 added eight points for Hamilton and Carly Gruenberg '16 grabbed six rebounds in her final home game.

Ali Doswell dropped in a game-high 17 points for Amherst. Doswell went 9-for-10 at the free-throw line and sits at 999 points for her collegiate career. Doswell, Hannah Hackley and Jackie Nagle were credited with three steals each as the team finished with 11, which contributed to 18 turnovers by the Continentals. Hackley chipped in 14 points and Meredith Doswell pulled down eight rebounds. Nagle finished with eight points, seven boards and three blocked shots.

Amherst leads the NESCAC in rebound margin, steals, points per game allowed and opponents' field goal and 3-point field goal percentage. The defense, which allowed just 24 points in a win at Middlebury College on Friday night, was on display again as Hamilton had 25 points through three quarters.

The Continentals held an early 5-1 lead on a 3-pointer by Graber and a jumper by Getman. Amherst responded with a 13-2 run and led the rest of the afternoon.

Ali Doswell started the spurt with a layup and Hackley tied the score at 5-5 with a jumper. Nagle scored in the paint and Haley Zwecker drained a 3-pointer. After a basket by Hamilton's Rylie Mainville '18 pulled the Continentals within 10-7, Meredith Doswell made a layup and Ali Doswell went 2-for-2 at the line for a 14-7 advantage with 1:50 left in the quarter. Amherst was 19-for-27 at the charity stripe while Hamilton made 7 of 14 attempts at the line.

Amherst led 16-9 after one quarter. The Continentals clawed back to within four points at 18-14 after they sandwiched a Gruenberg layup and Getman trifecta around an Ali Doswell basket early in the second quarter. Hamilton was still within six at 22-16 with 6:11 remaining when Halie Serbent '19 drilled a jumper. Amherst scored the last five points of the quarter and went into the break with a 27-16 cushion.

Amherst opened the third quarter with a 6-2 mini-run and led by double digits the rest of the way. Amherst held a 44-25 advantage after three quarters and Ali Doswell's free throw early in the fourth gave them their largest lead of 20 points at 45-25. Doswell exited for the last time with 7:52 to go after she made two free throws for a 47-29 cushion.
