Balanced Offensive Attack Leads Franklin Past Anderson

Franklin, Ind. - Behind four double-figure scoring performances, the Franklin College women's basketball got back in the win column with a 73-53 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory over Anderson University during Alumni Day on Saturday from the Spurlock Center.

Junior Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) led the Grizzlies with 18 points and connected on a game-high four three-point field goals. Junior Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Juniors Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) and Emily Alfrey (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central) each chipped in 12 points.

Franklin (10-5, 6-2 HCAC) received scoring efforts from eight players in the contest. Junior Sarah Taylor (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) and sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) each scored six points.

The Grizzlies used a 12-2 run to close out the opening quarter and held a 16-9 advantage after the first 10 minutes. The hosts scored 23 and 25 points during the second and third quarters to stretch the margin to 25 points.

Franklin shot 53.4 percent from the floor in the game and made six of its nine three-point field goal attempts.

Former basketball players returned to participate in an alumni game before joining family and friends to watch the current Grizzlies.

Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, January 20, at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Hanover College from the Spurlock Center. The contest is the second straight home league game. The team plays four of its final five January games at home.
