More news about: Green Mountain
POULTNEY, Vt. – Torie Cowell posted her first double double of the season but it was not enough as Green Mountain was beaten by Lyndon, 74-54, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women's basketball action on Thursday evening at the Eagle Dome.

Lyndon (2-5, 1-1 NAC) jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead after Mikayla Hodge made a jump shot just outside the paint in the opening two minutes of play. The team extended the lead to 19-10 thanks to a three-pointer by Allison Brown at the 3:07 mark of the first quarter.

The Eagles' Hayley Loisel (Tolland, Conn.) closed out the quarter with a jump shot from the pocket to narrow the gap 22-14.

Mercedes Rideout (Chambersburg, Pa.) three-pointer at the 8:32 mark of the second quarter brought the hosts back to within three at 24-21. Unfortunately, the visitors would score 13-straight points before Sherelle Jackson (Greenville, S.C) nailed a three-pointer. Her jumper closed out the half and brought the Eagles to within 40-31 at the break.

Lyndon held the halftime advantage thanks to Aimee Thompson's 12 points and Brown's 10 points. GMC received 12 first half points from Jackson and six each from Rideout and Torie Cowell (Rochester, N.Y.).

Lyndon outscored the home siders 16-7 in the third stanza and put the game out of reach despite the Eagles playing better in the fourth quarter.

Thompson led the Hornets with 18 points and nine rebounds and was supported by Brown's 12 points and six boards. A trio of Hornets posted 10 points as Abby Salvadore, Faith Richard, and Marley Harmon all reached double figure scoring. Salvadore added six boards and five dimes to her line.

Green Mountain (0-6, 0-4 NAC) was led by Cowell's 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jackson notched 15 points, five boards and seven assists. Maddy Postnikoff (Kelowna, B.C.) had six points and five boards off the bench.

The Eagles will take to the road for their next contest against NAC opponent Johnson on Saturday at 1 p.m., bringing a close to the 2015 portion of the schedule. Lyndon will host Castleton on the same day also at 1 p.m.
