William Paterson Women’s Basketball Can’t Overcome No. 11/13 Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson women's basketball team (4-4, 2-2 NJAC) suffered a 76-54 loss at No. 11/13 Montclair State (7-1, 5-0 NJAC) Dec. 9.

 

Senior forward Alex Milne (Howell, N.J./Howell) paced the Pioneers with 15 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Ariana Gomez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) posted 12 tallies.

 

WP cut the Red Hawks' lead to four thanks to an Ashley Castillo (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) three-pointer 21 seconds into the second quarter (16-12), but MSU answered with an 11-0 burst and owned a 32-20 edge at the intermission.

 

The Pioneers got as close as five twice midway through the third quarter, but the Red Hawks ended the period by scoring nine of the final 11 points (54-41).

 

Sophomore guard/forward Katie Sire led MSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Kayla Ceballos added 17 tallies and four assists.

 

William Paterson will play at Rutgers-Camden Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1:00 p.m.
