William Paterson Women’s Basketball Starts Conference Play with 66-42 Victory

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (3-1, 1-0 NJAC) used a balanced attack to start its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's basketball slate with a 66-42 home victory against Ramapo (1-4, 0-1 NJAC) Nov. 24.

 

Sophomore guard Jackie Rodriguez (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) scored a team-best 12 points from off the bench, knocking down four of seven (.571) three-pointers. Senior guard Sara Luberto (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) was 5-of-8 (.625) from the field for 11 tallies, and sophomore forward Ariana Gomez (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) had 10 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) posted 10 tallies and three steals, while senior forward Alex Milne (Howell, N.J./Howell) tied for the team high with six boards, chipping in seven points.

 

A 16-9 second-quarter scoring advantage turned a 17-12 WP edge into a 33-21 margin by halftime. Harden and Gomez each scored eight first-half points for the Pioneers.

 

WP pulled away during the second half, holding the Roadrunners to 24.0 (6-25) percent shooting during the game's final 20 minutes while outscoring Ramapo by a 23-5 count during the third quarter. For the game, WP owned a 28-12 edge in points off turnovers while committing 10 fewer miscues (15-25), and 11 of the available 15 Pioneers broke into the scoring column.

 

William Paterson will visit Brooklyn Monday, Nov. 30, at 6:00 p.m.
