Rose-Hulman's Prevo Earns 100th Career Win

ALBION, Mich. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won its women's basketball season opener for the first time since the 2006-07 season with a 53-45 victory at Albion College on Friday night.

Junior Abbie Marshall led a balanced Rose-Hulman attack with 11 points and nine rebounds.  Junior Kristen Belyea also reached double figures with 10 points.  Freshman Ally Bromenschenkel pitched in with nine points.

Other key contributors for the Fightin' Engineers included junior Josie Schmidt with eight points, and senior Cassidy Cain with seven points.

Rose-Hulman head coach Jon Prevo won his 100th career game to become the first women's basketball coach in program history to reach the 100-win plateau.

Olivia Savage led the Albion offense with 15 points.  Darian Payne added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Rose-Hulman jumped out to a 12-11 lead after the first quarter and pushed its lead to 27-19 at the half.  Both teams scored 16 points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth quarter as the Fightin' Engineers withstood several Albion challenges.

Defense was Rose-Hulman's key to victory, as the Fightin' Engineers held Albion to just 29% from the field and 21% from three-point range.  The Engineers combined for a 40% shooting performance in the win.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 entering Saturday's second game of the Albion Invitational against Oberlin.  The host Britons fell to 0-2 on the campaign.
