Case Western Reserve University sophomore Kara Hageman scored a career-high 26 points on Tuesday night, but it was not enough for the Spartans, who fell 72-63 to Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.

The Spartans dropped to 0-2 on the season with the loss, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 1-0.

Hageman shot nine-of-13 from the field, including a perfect four-for-four from three-point range, while adding eight rebounds and four assists.  Freshman Hillary Hellmann recorded her first career double-double in the game, scoring 12 points and collecting 10 rebounds, while junior Jessica McCoy finished the contest with 16 points, seven rebounds and a team-best five assists.

CWRU fell behind early in the first period, with the Yellow Jackets jumping out to a 7-0 lead with 6:41 left in the quarter.  The Spartans bounced back though, going on a 9-1 run, taking a one-point edge, 9-8, over Baldwin Wallace with 3:50 remaining.  However, the Yellow Jackets closed the frame on a 6-0 run of their own to lead 14-9 at the end of the first period.

Baldwin Wallace built its lead up to as many as 13 points with 3:37 to play in the half, but the Spartans would head into the locker room down just seven, 29-22, after McCoy hit a three-point shot with 18 seconds left.

The Yellow Jackets would eventually see their lead climb to 16 points with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter.  But, led by eight points from Hellmann late in the quarter, a 14-2 run by the Spartans to end the third put the team down by just four 50-46, entering the fourth period.

Hageman opened the fourth quarter with a layup that cut the lead to just two, but Syndey Clark was fouled on a made layup the next time down the court, hitting the free throw to push Baldwin Wallace's advantage back to five, 53-48.  The Yellow Jackets rebuilt a nine-point lead with 7:20 to play that the Spartans would cut to as few as five on a McCoy three-point with the shot clock expiring at the 5:38 mark, but that would be as close as CWRU would to Baldwin Wallace for the rest of the game.

Clark led all Yellow Jackets with 19 points and seven rebounds, with Janaya Feaster contributing 18 points during the game.

The Spartans will be back in action this weekend, when the team heads to the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio for the M Club Classic.  CWRU will open play at the tournament against Waynesburg University on Friday, November 20th at 5:00 p.m.
