Folkers scores career-high in season finale, Stout falls at Whitewater

WHITEWATER (February 21, 2015) - UW-Stout's Katelynne Folkers (Sr, Fall Creek) was not about to go away quietly. Playing in her final game as a Blue Devil and in Stout's final game of the season, Folkers scored a career-best 20 points to lead all scorers, but Whitewater would prevail, 69-66, at Kachel Gym.

The Blue Devils (6-19, 4-12 WIAC) trailed by as much as nine points with seven minutes left in the game, but came back to take a one point lead with just under a miinute left. During that six minute stretch, Stout outscored Whitewater 12-4 as Folkers scored eight of her 18 second hallf points in the run and Kyleigh Hebert (Jr, Spencer) added four more points and Stout led 64-63 with 56 seconds remaining.

Whitewater (13-12, 8-8 WIAC) tied the score on a free throw by Brooke Trewyn. Trewyn next stole the ball, was fouled and made both charity shots for a 66-64 Whitewater lead. The Warhawks would make three more free throw to pull ahead 69-64 and Folkers closed out the game with a bucket just before the buzzer.

Folkers finished the night hitting 8-of-12 from the floor, including one 3-pointer and three free throws. She also notched three assists, two steals and three rebounds. Jenna Goldsmith (So, St. Anthony, Minn) added 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Hebert finished the afternoon with 12 points.

The Warhawks got 15 points from Abbie Reeves and 14 from Malia Smith. Andrea Meinert had 11 rebounds.

Stout shot 40.0 percent (22-55) from the floor and was 19-27 (70.4 percent) from the line. The Warhawks shot 39.3 percent (22-56) from the floor and made 19-of-26 free throws (73.1 percent). Stout outrebounded Whitewater, 40-35.

Whitewater will advance to the quarterfinals of the WIAC tournament, Wednesday, Feb. 25.
