No. 1 Thomas More Clinches PAC Regular Season With an 80-39 Win Over Chatham

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The No. 1-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team clinched the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season title tonight (Wednesday, February 18, 2015) as it defeated Chatham University, 80-39, in the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 24-0 overall and 17-0 in the PAC.  Also with the win, Thomas More clinches the No. 1 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament.  With the loss, the Cougars fall to 6-18 overall and 3-14 in the PAC.

Thomas More raced out to a 29-7 lead when junior guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made a lay-up with 10:37 to play in the first half.  Chatham answered with a 4-0 run capped by a Kathryn Polaski jumper with 9:49 to play in the half to cut the lead to 29-11.  The Saints responded with a 14-2 run to increase the lead to 43-13 with 3:13 to play in the half when senior guard Stephanie Krusling (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) made two free-throws.  The Cougars closed out the half on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 45-22 at halftime when Megan Sieg made a jumper.

The Saints opened the second half on a 30-8 run to take their biggest lead of the game at 75-30 with 5:37 to play in the game when junior guard Kiley Bartels (Southgate, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made a jumper.  Chatham closed the game on a 9-5 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More went on to the 80-39 victory.

Thomas More out-scored Chatham 50-22 in the paint, 35-0 off turnovers, 19-4 on second chance points and 14-2 on fast break points.

Freshman guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) led all scorers with 17 points.  Junior forward Alexa Santamaria (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) joined in her in double-figures with 12 points.  Santamaria led the team on the boards with a game-high eight rebounds.  Senior guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) led the team in assists with nine.

Thomas More closes out the regular season on Saturday (February 21) when it travels to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Carey Center.
