Harris Breaks Albright Record for Field Goals in a Season in Win Over Hood

READING, Pa. – Junior Kelecia Harris set the Albright record for field goals made in a season and collected her 16th double-double of the season in leading the Albright women's basketball team to a 72-55 victory over Hood in Commonwealth Conference action Tuesday night inside the Bollman Center.

The Lions, who locked up the No.2 seed and will host a conference tournament semifinal game on Feb. 25, improved to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in the Commonwealth with the victory.

It marks the third time in school history that Albright has reached the 18-win plateau matching the win total of the 2006-07 team that finished 18-10. The school record was set by the 2007-08 team that went 20-7.

Harris finished with 16 points, on 7-of 10 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the line, and 15 rebounds. She also blocked four shots and added an assist.

Senior Jessica Venturelli tied Harris for high-scoring honors with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 shooting from the three-point line. Venturelli, who made her 99th career start for the Lions, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists. Emily O'Donnell came off the bench to score 10 points and pull down seven rebounds.

Harris posted a double-double in the first half as she had 14 points and 10 rebounds leading Albright to a 33-27 advantage at the break.

Albright led 36-31 with 14:34 to play, when Venturelli made a free throw then added a three-point shot to ignite a 10-0 runc capped by a Jane Joyce jumper, to push the lead to 46-31 with 11:42 left to play.

Venturelli then scored six straight points during a 15-2 blitz that put the game out of reach.

The Lions pushed the lead to 60-37 when Harris established the new single-season mark for made field goals with a layup with 6:00 remaining. It was her 159th made field goal of the season, surpassing the previous record of 158 that was set during the 1988-89 season by Nicole Buist.

Albright has a 9-1 record at home this season, which matches the victory total of the 2005-06 team that went 9-4 in the Bollman Center.
 
The Lions host rival Alvernia on Saturday (Feb. 21) at 2 p.m. to close out the regular season. The game marks the final home regular season game for seniors Allison Hardwick and Venturelli.
