More news about: Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball team celebrated the careers of its seniors tonight, and sent them off with a perfect conference record after a 66-56 victory over Gwynedd Mercy University.

The victory closes the Cavaliers' regular season with a 22-3 record, including 16-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and extends the club's win streak to 16 games.

This marks the third consecutive season that the Blue and White has closed the regular season with 22 victories.  This is also the second time in the last three years that the club has posted an undefeated conference slate.

Prior to tonight's game, Cabrini honored seniors Megan Decker and Amber Keys, along with manager Se'Quia Bailey. This is one of the most successful classis in program history, amassing 82 victories, including a
57-7 mark in CSAC games.

Decker ranks 4th on the program's all-time steal list with 221 and 9th in blocked shots with 59.  With 1,196 career points and 714 rebounds, Keys is one of just 4 players in the history of the program to have both 1100 points and 700 rebounds.

Junior Kristina Startare led the Cavaliers to victory tonight, as the junior scored a career high 23 points on 7-13 from the floor and 7-8 from the free throw line.  Decker added 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.

Keys recorded eight points, seven boards and matched a career high with five blocked shots.  Sophomore Renee Oliver eight points and four rebounds.

The Blue and White jumped out to an early lead, before a Keys' lay-up punctuated an 8-0 run that put the Cavaliers up 19-10 midway through the opening half.  The Griffins cut the lead back to one point before Oliver scored the final four points of the half, sending Cabrini into the half with a 34-29 lead.

A trio of Startare free throws extended the lead to 37-29 just over one minute into the second half.  Decker's steal and lay-up pushed the Cavaliers to a 45-35 lead at the 12:31 mark.  The lead grew to a game-high 16 points when sophomore Tayler Holmes' jumper capped a 7-0 spurt, putting the Cavaliers ahead 59-43 with 6:26 on the clock.

Senior Natasha Matthews led the Griffins (14-9, 10-4 CSAC) with 15 points, while sophomore Charlotte Kucowski paired 13 points and 15 rebounds.

As the top seed in next week's CSAC Tournament, Cabrini earns a bye into next Wednesday's semifinal round and will play its tournament games in the comfort of Nerney Field House.
