Royals Hold Home Court against LC Women's Basketball 59-43

HARRISONBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team continued its recent play of impressive defense, but were forced into some tough attempts from the floor as Eastern Mennonite University won 59-43 on Saturday afternoon.

EMU (19-3/13-1)'s lone conference loss came on the road at Lynchburg after defending home court on Saturday.

Lynchburg fell behind 24-9 midway through the first half as Shannon Allan contributed five of those points. The Hornets were held to 19.4% shooting from the floor while being outrebounded 26-17. A big reason for the rebounding differential was Shakeerah Sykes of EMU, who unlike the game in Lynchburg, did not encounter foul trouble on Saturday.

Eastern Mennonite cooled from its 41.2% first half shooting performance, but the Hornets could not claw all the way back in the second half despite getting 12 of their 21 second-half points from Allan and Charmaine Hairston.

The Royals (19-3/13-1 ODAC) were led by Jess Rheinheimer who contributed 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Shakeerah Sykes also contributed a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.

Allan led the Hornets with 15 points and five rebounds while Sarah Coon contributed seven points and six rebounds. Chaney Forbush added six points and a team-high 11 rebounds while Sammi Goldsmith pulled down seven caroms.

Lynchburg (16-7/11-3) hosts Virginia Wesleyan College (15-8/9-5) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the annual Pink Out Game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of breast cancer awareness.
