Meeker, Williams lead SVC to 87-63 victory over Geneva

Juniors Drew Meeker and Shalia Williams led the Bearcats to an 87-63 victory over Geneva College on the road in Beaver Falls.

The duo took control of the game early, as Meeker hit a three to open scoring, while Williams hit a jumper at the 18:20 mark that put SVC in front, 5-2.
 
With the Bearcats in front 7-4, Williams scored in the paint on three consecutive possessions, running the lead to 13-4, before Meeker added eight straight points.  After hitting back-to-back threes, Meeker then stole an inbound pass and added two more.  Mara Benvenuti then concluded the 17-point run with a three-pointer at the 13:57 mark that made it 24-4.
 
Near the midway point of the half, Jessica Welch hit a pair of treys to run the lead to 30-10.  Three minutes later, Jasmine Weems scored on a floater then followed with a three to make it 37-14 with 7:17 remaining.
 
Later in the half, Meeker added four consecutive points, part of her 15 in the half, to make it 49-26, and SVC went into the locker room in front 51-30.
 
Both teams struggled to score in the early portion of the second half, but the SVC lead slowly grew through the first 10 minutes of play, reaching 70-41 by the 9:25 mark. 
 
With 4:32 remaining, the lead reached 30 points after a three by Maggie Kimmich (80-50). 
 
The lead held steady, with Lauren Donley connecting on a three with 1:47 to go that made the score 87-57.
 
The Golden Tornadoes closed the game with 6 straight points, resulting in an 87-63 final. 

Four Bearcats scored in double figures, led by Meeker's 15.  Williams added 14 points and a game-high 9 rebounds, while Welch tallied 13 and Brittany Beckwith scored 10.  Ally Schmidt added 9 points, 6 rebounds, and a team-best 4 assists.

Heidi Mann and Miranda Heaney each scored 14 for Geneva (4-15 overall, 2-9 Presidents' Athletic Conference).

Saint Vincent is now 17-2 overall, 11-1 in the conference, and will face Waynesburg University on the road this Wednesday, February 4 at 5:30PM.
