JACKSON, Miss. -- In a battle of Southern Athletic Association unbeaten teams, Millsaps College edged Berry College, 53-50, on Sunday afternoon.

Millsaps, which snapped the Vikings' six game winning streak, moved to 14-3 and 6-0 in the SAA. Berry dropped to 13-4 and 5-1 in conference.

Valerie McLure and Chanlir Segarra paced the Vikings with 12 points apiece. McLure was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line for the visitors.

Both teams started off shooting cold. Millsaps then got the offense going and held an early 20-5 lead. Berry, however, rallied and cut the deficit to 26-22 at halftime.

Mel McLean (eight points) gave Berry its first lead (28-26) when she nailed a three-pointer from the corner with 18:53 remaining.

The Majors maintained the lead for the next 17 minutes before BC retook the lead. Segarra gave Berry its final lead, 50-49, after making a jumper with 1:04 left.

MC responded with a basket and then two free throws from Beverly Holmes for the final points of the contest. Holmes scored a game-best 15 points for Millsaps.

Trailing 53-50, McLean's last second three-pointer missed and the home team held on for the win.

"This was definitely a hard fought game between two good teams," said Berry Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "We weren't hitting our shots early, but we showed resiliency on the road by playing tough and taking the lead in the game. We came up short in the end, but we continue to show growth and I'm proud of the way we competed today."

Miah Brooks tallied 13 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for Millsaps. The Majors won the battle of the boards, 42-32.

The Vikings play at Centre College on Friday night.
