Curl's 20 Leads Pacific In 60-31 Romp Over Bearcats

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Sarah Curl led the Boxers on the offensive end with a 20-point outing in Pacific's 60-38 victory over the Willamette Bearcats inside of the Stoller Center on Friday evening.
 
Curl (So., Portland, Ore.) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game with a jumper off an assist from Abby Jones (Sr., Haines, Alaska). The Boxers continued to push the lead as Olivia Cook (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.) and Curl scored on back-to-back possessions to give Pacific a 6-0 lead over the opening four minutes.
 
The Bearcats quickly scored five-straight, but Kaila Johnson (Sr., McKinleyville, Calif.) hit a 3-pointer with 15:10 on the clock to spark a five-point run for Pacific heading into the final 12 minutes of the first period.
 
Willamette hung around for much of the opening half, but Lauren Lykins' (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) layup just inside the 10-minute mark, put Pacific up by double digits for the first time on the night.
 
The two sides traded baskets for much of the final nine minutes of the opening half, until with 2:37 on the clock the Boxers picked up an 11-point advantage and would not see their lead drop below 10 points the remainder of the game.
 
It was a 3-pointer by Nani Ostrom (Sr., Juneau, Alaska) off a Johnson assist that put Pacific ahead 29-18, Ostrom would strike again from beyond the arc to give Pacific a 14-point cushion, which eventually resulted in a 15-point Boxers lead at the halftime break.
 
Curl led the Boxers at the break with 12 points, while Ostrom notched 11 in the opening period.
 
The second period saw the Bearcats score first, but Jones quickly answered followed by a 3-pointer from Curl to put Pacific up by 18.
 
After nearly two scoreless minutes, Kelsey Misseldine (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) finished a Johnson assist with a layup to give the Boxers a 41-21 lead. Back-to-back Willamette makes, pulled the Boxer advantage to 15, before Curl struck from the 3-point line to put Pacific ahead 44-26.
 
The final 10 minutes of the game saw the Boxers' lead reach as few as 10 points and reach as high as 21 points before a scoreless final 1:40 saw time expire on a 60-39 home victory for the Boxers.
 
The Boxers outrebounded Willamette 46-45, while also outshooting the Bearcats 37.7-percent to 28.3-percent on the evening.
 
Pacific was led by Curl's 20 points, while Ostrom was the only other Boxer in double-figures with13 points. Cook finished the evening with 10 rebounds, while Jones and Curl snagged eight and six, respectively.
 
Johnson dished out five assists as Misseldine and Lykins each picked up two steals in the victory.
 
The Boxers return to the Stoller Center on Jan. 30 with a 6 p.m. scheduled tip against the visiting Linfield Wildcats.
