BOSTON, Mass. – Senior captain Alexis Wegrzynek (Wilbraham, Mass.) scored 14 points in Nichols College's 65-55 loss at Wentworth Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball action.

Wegrzynek also snared 13 rebounds and handed out five assists. Freshman Brooke Packard (Dudley, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points – 10 of which came in the first half – for the Bison while sophomore Julia Zawacki (Waterford, Conn.) netted seven points. The Bison led by 11 at the break (34-23) but were outscored 42-21 in the second half.

Junior Carly Rodgers (Scarborough, Maine) led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting and also grabbed 10 rebounds for the Leopards (4-11, 2-6 CCC). Freshman Riselly Deoleo (Manchester, N.H.) registered 15 points and also shot 50 percent from the floor (6-of-12) while junior Rachael Camara (Fall River, Mass.) finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Doeleo kicked off the scoring with a made layup, and Rogers followed it up with one of her own to put Wentworth up 4-0 early. Nichols responded with seven-straight points to go up 7-4. Following five lead changes in the first, Nichols jumped ahead by nine points thanks to a three-point play from Packard. The Leopards cut the lead down to five, but a 7-0 Nichols' run brought the deficit to 12 and the Bison entered halftime up 34-23.

Wentworth slowly but steadily chipped away at the Nichols lead in the second half. A 9-3 run for the Leopards tied the contest at 43 with 8:32 remaining when Deoleo hit a layup. The Bison briefly regained a two point lead, but freshman Haley Sabino (Topsfield, Mass.) tied it up again with a jumper with 7:43 left.

The Leopards didn't look back from there, regaining the lead after a pair of Camara free throws. Camara followed up with a 3-pointer to put WIT up 50-45 with 5:55 left. Nichols pulled within four with 3:03 left free throw from Wegrzynek, but Wentworth hit 11 free throws down the stretch to extend its lead.

In the second half the Leopards shot 52.4 percent from the floor while holding the Bison to 24.2 percent. Nichols outrebounded WIT 42-30.
