GLASSBORO, N.J – Senior guard Brittany Harden (Millville, N.J./Sacred Heart) notched her third straight 21-point game, but the William Paterson women's basketball team (9-6, 5-3 NJAC) couldn't overcome host Rowan (11-3, 7-1 NJAC) in overtime, 96-86, Jan. 17.

Harden added seven rebounds and a game-best five assists, and senior forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) had a double-double with 17 tallies and a game-high 15 boards.

Both teams had their runs during the first half, including a late 12-3 WP surge for a 40-33 Pioneer advantage at the intermission.

That lead grew to as many as 15 (53-38, 13:19) during the second period, the product of seven Mary Haines (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) points during a five-minute span. But, the Profs fought back, eventually knotting the score at 66-66 at the 3:16 mark. Rowan twice led by as many three during the next 2:27 of game action, including two Valerie Garofalo free throws with 49 seconds to play to push Rowan ahead by a 73-70 count. But, Harden hit a three-pointer from the right wing with 21 seconds left to tie the score, and a Prof trey was off the mark during the final seconds, sending the two teams to overtime.

Rowan scored the first five points of the extra session to seize the early momentum, and William Paterson was never able to get closer than four for the remainder of the contest.

Haines finished with 15 points and six rebounds, and freshman guard Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) had nine tallies. WP owned a 53-43 rebounding advantage, but was undone by 36 turnovers that Rowan turned into 30 points.

Sophomore guard Anyssa Sanchez and junior guard Kaitlin Schullstrom each scored 17 points for the Profs. Senior guard Jane Bonder chipped in 15 tallies and four assists.

William Paterson will host The College of New Jersey Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1:00 p.m.
