No. 2 Saints Defeat Plattsburgh State, 93-50, in San Juan Shootout

(SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico) – The No. 2-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team defeated Plattsburgh State University, 93-50, today (Monday, December 29, 2014) on the final day of the San Juan Shootout at the Mario "Quijote" Morales Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-0 and with the loss, the Cardinals fall to 4-4.

Thomas More jumped out to a 16-5 lead with 15:03 to play in the first half when junior guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) made lay-up.  The Cardinals answered with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 16-14 when Stephanie Linder made a lay-up with 12:56 to play in the opening half.  The Saints closed out the half on a 31-9 run to take a 47-23 lead at halftime when freshman forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made a lay-up with 2:29 to play in the half.

The Saints continued to dominate in the second half as they out-scored Plattsburgh State 46-27 to cruise to the 93-50 win.  13 of the 14 Saints that played scored in the game.

Junior forward Sam Cady (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  The Saints were led in scoring by freshman guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with a game-high 19 points, while Moss added 17 points and nine rebounds.  Owings led the team in steals with four, while she and Moss led the team in assists with four each.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (January 3, 2015) when it hosts Thiel College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
