No. 2 Thomas More Survives Rally to Defeat Cabrini, 56-55, in Puerto Rico

(SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico) – The second-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball survived a second half rally to defeat Cabrini College, 56-55, today (Sunday, December 28, 2014) in its first game of the San Juan Shootout at Mario "Quijote" Morales Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 8-0 and with the loss, the Cavaliers fall to 6-3.

Thomas More raced out to a 10-0 lead when junior forward Sam Cady (St. Anthony, Minn./St. Anthony Village) made a lay-up with 18:05 to play in the first half.  Cabrini responded with an 8-0 run capped by a Tayler Holmes jumper to cut the lead to 10-8 with 14:57 to play in the opening half.  The Saints answered with a 15-4 run to extend the lead to 25-12 with 10:21 to play in the half when junior guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) made a lay-up.  The Cavaliers used a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 25-18 with 6:08 to play in the half when Megan Decker made a lay-up.  Thomas More closed out the half on an 8-4 run to take a 33-22 lead at halftime when junior guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) made a jumper with 1:01 to play in the opening half.

Cabrini opened the second half on a 19-4 run to take a 41-37 lead when Amber Keys made a jumper with 10:44 to play in the second half.  Thomas More answered with a 17-10 run capped by a Moss lay-up with 4:14 to play in the game to take a 54-51 lead.  Decker made two free-throws with 1:34 to play in the game to cap a Cabrini 4-0 lead and give the Cavaliers a 55-54 lead.  Moss made a lay-up with 27-seconds to play and Cabrini couldn't answer as Thomas More won the game, 56-55.

The Saints were led by Moss, who had her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  She also led the team in assists with three.  Senior guard Sydni Wainscott (Erlanger, Ky./Simon Kenton) finished with nine points, while Cady added seven points and nine rebounds and freshman guard finished with seven points.

Thomas More closes out the San Juan Shootout tomorrow when it plays Plattsburgh State University at 3 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Atlantic at Mario "Quijote" Morales Coliseum.
