Hot shooting sends No. 6 Tommies to 8-0 start

In Friday night's battle of unbeatens, No. 6-ranked St. Thomas (8-0) sank 11 3-point baskets and cruised to a 78-50 women's basketball victory over visiting Wartburg (Iowa) (8-1) at Schoenecker Arena.

Senior Jenna Dockter had 16 points for the Tommies, whose 11 treys were a season high and one off their school record.

Senior Anna Smith had 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, and junior Katie Stone added 11 points.

UST shot 55 percent from the field, including 11-of-27 from 3-point range. It raced to a 20-point lead late in the first half and used an 18-2 second-half run to extend the lead to 28.

The Tommies got 33 bench points as freshman Lauren Fischer was 3-for-3 from behind the arc for nine points, and Kaitlin Langer had eight points and three rebounds.

The Tommies play Dec. 29-30 in the Carthage (Wis.) tournament.
