E-town downs Sacred Heart (P.R.) 63-40

 SAN JUAN — The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team returned to Puerto Rico for the first time since the 2011-12 season and won its opening contest, 63-40, over Sacred Heart (P.R.). The Blue Jays used a big first half to get out in front and didn't look back in staying unbeaten on the season. Rachel Forjan had a game-high 12 points.

Seven of Forjan's 12 points came in Elizabethtown's (7-0) 27-point first half. Krissy Pennell and Emily Martin each added five points in the opening half apiece.

E-town also controlled the glass, grabbing 33 rebounds to 19 for Sacred Heart. Taylor Alwine hauled down eight first-half rebounds and finished with 11, most of any player on the court. Emily Martin collected eight boards for the visitors, while Alyssa Aichele had five. The Jays held a 56-36 advantage in rebounds for the game and scored 18 second-chance points to just five for Sacred Heart.

Elizabethtown's defense was suffocating for a second straight game, holding Sacred Heart to 13.3% shooting in the first half (4-for-30) and 25% for the game. The Jays shot 36.8 percent for the game and had four treys. Forjan connected twice from downtown, with Pennell and Nikki Thompson hitting one three each.

Genesis Torres led the hosts with eight points. Deborah Toro had five points, eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks for the Dolphins.

E-town will face Albright in its final game of the Puerto Rico Basketball Classic at 6 p.m. Thursday in Carolina, P.R.
