More news about: Dickinson

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team turned in another strong performance on Sunday, but couldn't catch Lycoming in the end, falling 60-56 in the championship game of the Days Inn Carlisle South Tip-Off Tournament.

The Red Devils struck first but Lycoming answered with an 8-0 run over the first five minutes. The Red Devils would counter as first-year Myonie Williamson hit three straight three-pointers to put Dickinson on top, 16-11, at the midpoint of the half.

An 11-0 run put Lycoming back in front, 22-16, with just under six minutes remaining in the half. The Devils finished out the first stanza with a 9-2 stretch to hold a 27-26 advantage at the break.

Lycoming scored two quick baskets, coming out of the half before senior Sarah Phillips knocked-down a three-pointer to tie the game, 30-30. The Warriors put together another run, taking a 43-35 lead at the 14:06 mark.

They held a 10-point lead with 11:25 remaining in the game but Dickinson would rally once again. Sophomore Helen Roberts came off the bench to net five quick points and Liz Schultz buried a three-pointer to pull the Devils within two at the 5:17 mark.

Lycoming built the lead back to six, but Roberts came up big again, draining a three-pointer to cut the deficit in half, with 1:16 remaining in the game. All-Tournament selection Ali Derr hit a big jumper with 24 seconds to play to help secure the win.

The Red Devils battled to final buzzer, but ran out of time as Lycoming held on, 60-56.

Williamson led the Red Devils with 11 points and four rebounds while Roberts finished with eight points. Mary Martin added seven points, three rebounds and three steals, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Schultz had a big game on Saturday night and earned All-Tourney recognition with five points, five rebounds and a pair of assists in the championship game.

Derr was also named the Tournament MVP, scoring a game-high 18 points. Nicole Calella added 13 points and three assists while Shelby Mueller finished with 12 points and five rebounds as they both earned All-Tournament recognition.
