Huge Second Half Propels LC Women to 67-57 win at Ferrum

FERRUM , VA – A huge second-half comeback gave the Lynchburg College women's basketball team a 67-57 non-conference victory at Ferrum Tuesday afternoon.

The host Panthers held a 40-30 edge at halftime before LC took control. An 18-4 run over the first six minutes of the second half gave the Hornets a 48-44 lead that they would never relinquish.

Lynchburg sophomore guard Charmaine Hairston scored a game-high 20 points. The Rocky Mount native played well in her return to the region, hitting 8-of-17 shot attempts with five steals and three assists. Shannon Allan tallied 18 points, nailing three three-pointers and collecting seven rebounds and three steals. Chaney Forbush posted 17 and eight rebounds, while Lauren Penley grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points. Sammi Goldsmith added eight assists and eight rebounds.

Zarkia Mattox and Jacole Hairston each had 17 points for Ferrum (2-4), and Kemani Crawford had 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. A big difference in the final outcome was three-point shooting; each team attempted 18 shots from beyond the three-point arc, with the Hornets hitting eight and the Panthers going 0-18.

The Hornets (6-2) will take part in the Puerto Rico Classico this weekend, squaring off with Albright Friday and Williams Sunday.
