Warhawk Women Fall to Pioneers on the Road

The Warhawks dropped in the first two field goals of the game to take a quick 4-0 lead. The Pioneers responded with a 10-3 run to take over the lead 10-7 with 16:41 remaining in the first half. 

UW-Platteville extended the lead into double figures where it hovered the remainder of the half.Andrea Olsen (East Troy/East Troy) ended the first 20 minutes on a high note with an old-fashioned three point play to make the score 43-36 in favor of the Pioneers at intermission. 

The Warhawks continued to battle and whittle away at the Platteville lead eventually cutting the deficit to three, 74-71 with 4:17 left in the game. 

Four straight Pioneer points pushed the advantage back to seven, 78-71, but UW-Whitewater responded with an Abbie Reeves (Salem/Westosha Central) three-pointer and Lisa Palmer(Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) free throw to pull to within three, 78-75 with 1:41 on the clock. 

Forced to foul, UW-Platteville made four straight from the charity stripe but Reeves kept the Warhawks in the game with another jumper from long range to make it a four-point game 82-78 with 47 ticks of the clock left. 

UW-Platteville made of their final 10 opportunities from the free throw line to seal the game.

Both teams shot well in the game with the Warhawks knocking down nearly 43% (29-68) of their field goal attempts compared to UW-Platteville's 51% (32-63). UW-Whitewater drained six more three pointers than the Pioneers but Platteville countered with 24-27 from the free throw line compared to UW-Whitewater's 18-24. The Warhawks dominated on the glass with 44 total rebounds while holding the Pioneers to just 30 in the game.

Reeves was the high scorer for the Warhawks with 18 points including a 5-8 performance from beyond the arc. Olsen posted 14 points followed by Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley)with 12 on 6-8 from the field. Jaya Perkins (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) pitched in 11. Palmer led all players on the boards with 13 rebounds. 

UW-Whitewater returns to Kachel Gym to host Wheaton College Wednesday, December 10 at 7 pm.
