Navarro's 31 Points Help Lehman Cruise By Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Lehman College women's basketball team earned its second CUNY Athletic Conference victory of the season, by cruising past Medgar Evers, 86-54, on Friday evening. The Lightning are still unbeaten in conference play and have won four in a row overall.

Four Lightning players scored in double figures, including junior guard Jennifer Navarro (Jamaica, N.Y./Grover Cleveland), who had a game-high 31 points. Junior forward Karrin Walker (New York, N.Y./Richard R. Green) tallied a double-double by scoring 21 points and grabbing a game-high 17 boards.

The Lightning started the game off strong, by going on an 11-0 run, capped off by a steal and a layup from sophomore guard Amely Del Rosario (Bronx, N.Y./John F. Kennedy) to give the Lightning a 14-3 lead, less than four minutes into the game.

With 10:40 remaining in the first half, Navarro, who is No. 1 in the nation in average three-point field goals per game, nailed a shot from beyond the arc, while being fouled. She successfully hit the free throw to complete the four-point play, extending Lehman's lead to 23-8. Lehman was up 50-23 at the half.

The Lightning scored the first nine points in the second half, highlighted by back-to-back layups from junior forward Yarmese Jones (Astoria, N.Y./William C. Bryant), to give Lehman a 59-23 advantage. The Lightning never trailed in the game and would go on to win, 86-54.

Navarro also tallied four assists and forced three steals. She continued her hot shooting with eight three-point field goals. Del Rosario scored 10 points, dished out six assists, and forced five steals. Junior forward Amani Lightbourne (Elmsford, N.Y./Alexander Hamilton) had a game-high eight assists. Jones added 14 points.

Lehman will have another CUNYAC road game on Tuesday, against York, at 6:00 p.m.
