BETHLEHEM, Pa.--- The Moravian College women's basketball team grabbed their first conference win as they opened the 2014-15 Landmark Conference season Wednesday night, 72-51, against Goucher College in Johnston Hall.

"It was great to get that first win in the league," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "It's hug,e especially at home, you have to get that. It was a great bounce back from Montclair which they are a very good team but I don't think we played very well. I thought we played hard right from the start and continued it through the second half which was great to see."

The Hounds took the lead six minutes into the first half and never looked back. Sophomore guard Morgan Calabrese got two points on the scoreboard early and she would add to it often scoring 17 points in the first half with two rebounds, two assists and a steal. Junior guard/forward Alesha Marcks would put up nine points, grabbed three rebounds, one assist and one steal before the intermission.

The Greyhounds continued their lead in the second half as Calabrese led with a career-high of 23 points, adding a total of five rebounds and a block. Marcks capped her night at 17 points and seven rebounds while freshman forward Trista Cunningham posted eight points, seven rebounds and grabbing three steals. Freshman guard Taylor Freeman scored seven baskets and six rebounds.

Senior forward Alexis Wright entered the game with 698 career rebounds and would leave as the eighth person in Moravian College school history to earn over 700 career rebounds after collecting six rebounds and six points in the 72-51 victory over Goucher College. Junior guard Emily MacDonnell also tossed in four points while junior guard Marie Rossignoli grabbed a career-high six rebounds.

"Morgan was so tough tonight," stated Spirk. "Offensively she was terrific, but what I was really pleased with was her defense. She got a couple of steals, but the best thing was she finished her layups which she was struggling with. If she can play like that we are going to be okay and overall it was a good win going into Catholic."

The Blue and Grey are away this weekend as they head to The Catholic University of America on Saturday, December 6 for a Landmark Conference game with tip-off slated for 4:00 p.m. The Hounds will not return to Johnston Hall until January 3, 2015.
