Mid-game run keeps Tommie women unbeaten

Senior Maggie Weiers had 22 points, one off her career high, and senior Jenna Dockter added 17 points, five assists and four steals as the No. 8-ranked Tommies (5-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC) pulled away from Gustavus (4-2, 0-1) to win Wednesday night's women's basketball game 76-43 at UST's Schoenecker Arena.

St. Thomas shot 53 percent from the floor (27-of-51), had a 31-24 rebounding edge, and helped pressure Gustavus into 24 turnovers and 35-percent shooting (14-of-40). UST held the visitors to just 16 second-half points.

UST used a 7-0 run to close the first half with a 39-27 lead. The Tommies' 20-4 run over the first 10:00 of the second half let them pull away.

Tommie junior guard Katie Stone added 12 points and three steals.

Freshman guard Mikayla Miller led Gustavus with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists.

St. Thomas is home Saturday to face St. Ben's (1 p.m.).
