WILKES-BARRE (PA) – King's College shot 52.6 percent from the field as the Lady Monarchs downed visiting Delaware Valley College, 89-72, in the Freedom Conference opener for both teams.

 

King's improved its overall record to 3-3 while the Aggies fell to 2-4. Delaware Valley will have its home conference opener on Saturday, December 6 when Eastern University makes the short trip to Doylestown.

 

The Lady Monarchs connected on 30 of 57 shots from the field, including a stellar 9-for-19 effort (47.4 percent) from beyond the arc. They also got to the foul line 28 times (just six by Delaware Valley) and made 20 of their free throws.

 

The Aggies did force King's into 24 turnovers while committing just nine of their own. That helped them take 30 more shots from the field, but they hit on just 32 of 87 attempts (36.8 percent), including a 4-for-29 showing (13.8 percent) from 3-point land.

 

Delaware Valley held an early 11-9 lead before the game was tied on four separate occasions over the next four minutes. The last was at 17-17 after an Eireann Anastasi layup with 8:56 left in the opening half.

 

The Lady Monarchs took command from there, starting with a 10-0 run over a three and half minute span. The Aggies scored the next four points before King's ran off another 10 straight for a 37-21 advantage. It was a 15-point lead at the break.

 

King's went up by as many as 23 in the second half. Delaware Valley was able to get to within 12 on four occasions before the Lady Monarchs finished with the 17-point victory.

 

Kayla Feairheller had 20 points and 10 rebounds for King's. Marissa Manning added 16 points and nine boards while Kasey Seitz hit four treys, en route to a 15-point effort.

 

For the Aggies, senior Brenna Coll recorded 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. It upped her career point total to 1,102 and moved her into 13th place in school history as she surpassed 1990 graduate Michelle Shirk (1,093 points).

 

Anastasi finished with 19 points while Agatha Drozd had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Barlow nearly had a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
