Boxers Shoot 90-Percent From Line In 84-60 Loss At Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Double-digit performances from three starts was not enough for the Pacific women's basketball team as the Boxers fell 84-60 to Corban inside of the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center on Monday evening.
 
The Warriors opened the scoring 19 seconds into the game and led wire-to-wire against the Boxers. Pacific netted its first points with 18:32 remaining in the first period as Sarah Curl (So., Portland, Ore.) hit a 3-pointer to pull the Boxers within one of the home side.
 
Corban continued to push its lead throughout the opening five minutes with the lead reaching as many as eight points, despite makes on the offensive end for Pacific by Jonica Durbin (Sr., Seabeck, Wash.), Nani Ostrom (Sr., Juneau, Alaska), and Curl.
 
Curl's jumper with 15:14 left in the opening period cut Corban's lead to 17-11, before the Warriors scored six-straight to pull ahead by double digits with 13:14 remainin.
 
Pherrari Brumbaugh (Jr., Wasilla, Alaska) hit for the Boxers off an assist from Olivia Cook (Sr., Beaverton, Ore.). The Boxers were unable to string together defensive stops with scores on the offensive end as the Warriors were able to step beyond the arc and hit from behind the 3-point line as Sadie Pilgeram did with 11:20 remaining in the first half after a pair of made Corban free throws to give the Warriors a 16-point lead.
 
After a missed Corban layup Abby Jones (Sr., Haines, Alaska) grabbed a defensive rebound and finished with a fast break layup on the other end of the court, before Kaila Johnson (Sr., McKinleyville, Calif.) helped Pacific sandwich a Warriors layup to pull within 14 of Corban.
 
The Boxers battled with the Warriors over the remaining nine minutes of the opening period, but Corban managed to push its lead to 21 before halftime.
 
Pacific came out of the locker room after the break with an early jumper from Curl and a pair of defensive stops before Curl hit a jumper at 18:39 to cut the lead to 17 points.
 
Curl's back-to-back jumpers were followed by another defensive stop for the Boxers, resulting in a made jumper in the paint from Ostrom, which quickly prompted a Corban timeout at the 17:51 mark.
 
The Warriors took advantage of the timeout and immediately scored five-straight points to push its lead to 20. Corban continued to extend its lead to as many as 33 points before the Boxers were able to pull back within 24 in the final minute of play.
 
Curl led the Boxers with 13 points, while Cook and Ostrom finished with 12 and 10, respectively. Cook was the Boxers' leader in rebounds with eight, while five Boxers dished out two assists each.
 
The Boxers get an 11-day break from game action before heading to Olympia, Wash., for a 5:30 p.m. scheduled tip-off against Evergreen State on Dec. 12.
