CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans used their most dominating first half of the season to shut down the Plymouth St. and kept it rolling in the second half to earn a 67-52 victory on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

Castleton held the Panthers to just 17.9 percent shooting and five field goals to take a 22-point first-half lead. The team allowed only 27.6 percent shooting from the floor overall and outrebounded Plymouth St. 48-35 to improve to 3-1 overall. The Panthers drop to 3-2 with the loss though their bench did outscore the Spartans 28-8.

Junior Bryanna DuPont was dominant with a career-best 20 rebounds and 13 points, as well as four assists to lead the Spartans. Three other players reached double figures, including Jade Desrocheswith 16 points while Meghan O'Sullivan added 12. Sophomore Lindsay Sabo was solid with 13 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists.

For Plymouth St., Taylor Perry came of the bench to provide 17 points and five rebounds while Tiffany Lewis chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Kayla Wyland was also solid off the pine with five points, six rebounds and two assists without a turnover.

Castleton came out firing, getting back-to-back triples from Desroches to grab a 12-0 advantage just 3:36 into the contest. Plymouth St. finally scored its first basket at 14:32, but a bucket fromTaylor Raiche pushed the lead back to ten with 12 minutes left. Following another Panther jumper the Spartans came back with a 15-2 run over the next eight minutes to push their lead to 32-10 on a free throw from Morgan Raiche with just 3:03 remaining in the half. Each team scored two points in the final 2:30 of the half to give Castleton a 34-12 advantage at the break.

A triple from Sabo and a three-point play from DuPont made up a 6-2 run to extend the Spartan lead to 40-13 with 18:33 left. Just minutes late another three from Sabo pushed it to 45-15 and a 30-point lead. Plymouth St. slowly chipped away and used an 18-8 run over the next seven minutes to make it 53-33 with 9:21 left. The Panthers continued to work hard and with 3:51 remaining trailed by just 15, 58-43. O'Sullivan and Ali Jones extended it back to 20 points a minute later, but Plymouth St. ended the game on a 9-4 run for the 15-point final.

The Spartans return to action on Dec. 3 when they host Lyndon for their conference opener.
