The Baruch College Bearcats lost a heart-breaking 80-77 first round NCAA contest in overtime to Hartwick College on Friday night in Oneonta, New York.

The loss ends the Bearcats' season at 21-8, while the weekend host Hartwick advances to the second round on Saturday night in Lambros Arena to play #11-ranked Amherst College (defeated Springfield 63-49).

The game was competitive from the opening whistle and the Bearcats managed to take a one point halftime lead (31-30) behind the solid play at guard from Iyana Abrams with 10 points.

During the second half, the visiting Bearcats shot 50 percent (12-for-24) and used solid defensive pressure to build a 50-39 advantage with 9:30 left.

Hartwick battled back to force overtime behind the duo of Brittany Dumas and Maria Foglia who combined to score 36 points in the second half.

Dumas scored eight straight points in the overtime, including a 3-point play with 2:23 left, and Foglia hit two free throws with 20 seconds to give the home team their first NCAA victory since 1991.

"We came into the game with a good plan and played very well for large stretches of the game," said Baruch Head Coach Machli Joseph. "Unfortunately, Hartwick rallied behind their two all-league players and behind strong fan support were able to squeeze out the victory on their home court."

Abrams scored a career-high 22 points and finished with four assists in the tough loss.

Sheridan Taylor (nine rebounds) and Francess Henry (two blocks) scored 17 points each.

Kristen Podlovits scored nine points off the bench.

Dumas finished with 34 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Foglia had 23 points and three steals. Both players played 44 of the 45 minutes of the game.
