Cortland Women Beat Oswego, 82-58; Will Play at Oneonta in SUNYAC Quarterfinals Tuesday

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Five Cortland players scored in double figures as the Red Dragons closed the regular season with an 82-58 win over visiting Oswego. Cortland (15-10, 11-7 SUNYAC) finished fifth in the SUNYAC standings and will play at fourth-seeded Oneonta in the league's quarterfinals Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Tuesday's other quarterfinal will feature sixth-seeded Fredonia at third-seeded Geneseo. Plattsburgh won the regular-season title and will host the semifinals and finals Friday and Saturday. Buffalo State is the second seed and earned a bye into the semifinals.

Senior Megan Touhey (Maine/Maine-Endwell) led Cortland with 17 points and four steals. Senior Grace Williamson (Olean) made all seven of her shots from the field and finished with 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Junior Sarah Seger (Wantagh/L.I. Lutheran) and junior Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton) scored 12 points apiece and sophomore Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) added 10 points. Seger made both of her shots and was 8-of-10 from the foul line. Byrnes made two 3-pointers and 5-of-8 shots overall, while Cohen had seven rebounds and four assists. Junior Lindsey Minor (Wheatley Heights/St. John the Baptist) matched her career high with seven assists.

Oswego (6-19, 2-16 SUNYAC) was led by Jenn Robbins (Geneva) with 18 points. Heather Hebert (Hilton) recorded 11 points and six rebounds and Alison Nunziato (West Sand Lake/Averill Park) scored 10 points and handed out three assists.

Cortland went on an 18-1 run over the final 4:38 of the first half to turn a 7-point lead into a 47-23 halftime lead. Touhey scored 15 points in the opening half, including nine of the Red Dragons' 18 in the decisive run. Cortland's lead remained in the 20's the entire second half.

The Red Dragons finished 46 percent from the floor and 75 percent (18-of-24) from the foul line. Oswego made only 25 percent from the field in the first half but hit 41 percent in the second half and finished at 33 percent.
