CORTLAND, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior forward Shannon McGinnis totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds while sophomore center Allison McKenna totaled 15 points and 10 boards to lead the Knights to a 69-62 victory at Cortland in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's basketball play, Tuesday.

Geneseo (17-6, 11-5 SUNYAC) won its fourth straight game to move into a tie with Oneonta for third place in the league standing with two games remaining in the regular season. The victory also clinched no lower than the fourth seed for the SUNYAC Tournament, which will start with a home game next Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

In the first half, a 15-foot jumper by junior center Katie Peterson gave the Knights a 15-14 lead with 9:21 on the clock but a 7-0 Cortland run put the visitors in a 22-15 hole with 7:29 remaining in the half.

Cortland would maintain its seven-point lead, 28-21, with 5:16 on the clock, before a 7-2 Knights run capped by a three-pointer by first-year forward Bridgit Ryan made it a two-point game, 30-28, with 2:09 on the clock. Cortland would score the final basket of the half at 1:17 to take a four-point lead into intermission, 32-28.

In the second half, Geneseo would slowly take control of the game. A three-pointer by first-year guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh would tie the game, 40-40, at 13:03, but Cortland would quickly answer with a jumper by Caysea Cohen. Geneseo sophomore guard Dana Cohan would put the Knights back on top with a three-pointser at 12:09, but the Red Dragons would again answer on a jumper by Lindsey Minor to lead 44-43 at 11:29.

Tied, 48-48, with 10:06 left in regulation, the Knights would put together a decisive 9-0 run, punctuated by a Ryan three-pointer, to break the game open, 57-48, with 4:28 to play. Cortland (14-10, 10-7 SUNYAC) would score its first field goal in almost seven minutes on a three-point basket by Erin Wolstenholme with 3:37 on the clock.

The teams would trade three-pointers before McGinnis scored five points on back-to-back possessions to give the Knights their largest lead of the game, 65-54, with 1:24 left in regulation and put the game out of reach.

Geneseo built a 43-27 advantage in rebounds, including a 31-22 edge on the defensive boards, while the Red Dragons were only able to come up with six offensive rebounds on the evening.

The Knights host New Paltz on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. before closing the regular season against visiting Oneonta at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
