GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Cabrini women's basketball went to overtime for the second consecutive game before securing its second consecutive 20 win season under head coach Kate Pearson.  The Cavaliers improved to 20-4 overall and 14-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with tonight's 59-56 win at Gwynedd Mercy.  The victory also clinched a first round bye in the upcoming CSAC Tournament.

Four Cavaliers scored in double figures tonight, led by senior Brittany Sandone with 16 points and five rebounds. Senior Annie Rivituso and junior Amber Keys both tallied double-doubles in the victory.  Rivituso paired 10 points with 13 rebounds and four steals, while Keys recorded 12 points and 14 boards.  Junior Megan Decker added 10 points and six rebounds.

Neither team could secure the game's momentum in an opening half that feature seven lead changes and five ties.  Neither team managed to extend its lead to more than four points as they combined to shoot just 26% from the floor.  After 20 minutes, the Cavaliers trailed Gwynedd Mercy 22-20.

The Blue and White finally gained some control of the game after the break, using a 14-2 run to build a 37-26 lead just over five minutes into the second half.  Sophomore Kristina Startare's three pointer extended Cabrini's lead to a game high 13 points with 10:19 on the clock.

The Griffins were not going to go quietly, as they embarked on a 14-3 run of their own to take a 50-49 lead with just 86 seconds to play. The Cavaliers had their chances for a game-winning bucket, but missed five consecutive shots in the game's final minutes and claimed five offensive rebounds.  Following an offensive rebound, Rivituso was fouled and split a pair of free throws to send the game to overtime tied at 50.

Cabrini scored the first five points of the extra frame on a Keys' lay-up and Sandone three pointer.  The Griffins got as close as 57-56 with 1:08 to play before the Cavaliers closed the game at the free throw line.

Natasha Matthews led the Griffins (13-11, 10-5 CSAC) with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Kelsey Yori paired 11 points and nine boards.

Cabrini will celebrate the careers of its four seniors, Maggie McElroy, Rivituso, Sandone and Colleen Stewart on Wednesday night as it closes the season with visit from Keystone College (14-10, 8-7 CSAC).  Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Nerney Field House.
