LOS ANGELES — It was senior night for the Occidental women's basketball team, but it was a junior that stole the show.

Ashton Reid scored a game-high 20 points as the Tigers beat Whittier, 66-58 at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday.

Oxy improves to 12-12 overall and 6-9 in SCIAC.

Senior Elizabeth Messick wasn't a bad supporting actor, posting a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. The 6-foot-3 post player is a two-time All-SCIAC selection who's been in the top five in the SCIAC in rebounding and blocked shots in each of the past three seasons.

Messick was one of six seniors that were honored with a pregame ceremony. Crystal Goodwin, Brittni Walker, Kristen Treat, Alyssa Mort and Michelle Naito-Lo were the others.

Naito-Lo, Oxy's leading scorer before suffering a career-ending knee injury earlier this year, did not dress, but was introduced last and received a huge ovation for her four-year contribution to the Oxy women's basketball program.

The Tigers finish the season at Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 22.
