BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Senior forwards Rachel and Jessica Perrone (Poughquag, N.Y.) each picked up double-doubles to fuel the Mount Saint Mary College women's basketball team (5-17, 5-7 Skyline) to a much-needed Skyline Conference victory at NYU-Poly (2-19, 0-11 Skyline) Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Perrone matched a career-high with 26 points, while Jessica Perrone banked 11 in Saturday's win. Jessica led the team with 13 rebounds on the afternoon, while Rachel was right behind her with 12. Rachel also added four assists, while Jessica led the team with three steals. This is the second time this season that the Perrone Twins recorded double-doubles in the same game, the first time taking place in the Knights' 70-60 loss to St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) back on Jan. 4.

Much of Saturday's contest was very competitive, as the score was tied 14 times and lead changed nine times. Eight of those lead changes occurred in the first half, as the teams battled back and forth until the Fighting Blue Jays took a four-point advantage into the break.

The Knights and the Jays stayed even in the early portion of the second half, with the Knights tying the game four times in the first seven minutes and the Jays grabbing the lead back each time. At the 13:08 mark, a jumper by Rachel Perrone gave the Knights a two-point lead, one which they held on to until the final buzzer sounded.

The Knights finally broke the game open starting with 5:39 on the clock when junior guard Lauren Romao (Brick, N.J.) sank a three-pointer to push the Knight lead to double-digits for the first time in the game. They soon took their largest lead at 16 points at the 3:33 mark when freshman guard Nicole D'Angio (Bethpage, N.Y.) drained a layup and hit the successive free throw after being fouled in the process. The Knights held tight to their large lead for the remainder of the game to capture the 15-point victory.

Junior forward Natalie Candarelli (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) banked 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Knights on Saturday. Sophomore guard Nicole Scicutella (Massapequa, N.Y.) added 11 points and fell just short of a double-double with a team-high nine assists. D'Angio came off the bench to provide eight points and eight boards for the Knights, both career highs.

The Fighting Blue Jays were led by Tabitha Larsen, who scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Alyssa D'Apice added 18 and dished out a game-high 11 assists. Andrea Koutsis put in a nice effort with eight points and eight boards.

The Knights shot a season-best 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field on Saturday, while holding their opponents to just 32.9 percent (26-of-79) shooting. They also grabbed a stellar 52 rebounds, while Poly grabbed just 36.

The Knights return to action on Monday, Feb. 17, with a non-conference matchup against Baruch College. Tip-off from the Kaplan Center is set for 6 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with men's basketball vs. SUNY College at Old Westbury immediately following.
