Rams Remain in First Place After Skyline Victory

Farmingdale State - 87, Old Westbury - 73


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team earned an 87-73 win over Skyline opponent Old Westbury this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams improved to 10-7 overall and 7-1 in conference play and now hold a one game lead over The Sage Colleges (5-1) for first place.

Leading 21-20 with 6:44 remaining in the first half, an 8-0 Farmingdale State run that featured three straight Camille Romero (Queens, N.Y.) scores put the Rams ahead 29-20. After an Old Westbury (5-13, 3-4) 3-pointer, nine straight Farmingdale State points increased the lead to 38-23 with 1:45 left on the clock. The Rams took a 13-point lead (40-27) into the halftime break.

The Panthers started the second half on a 15-6 run to cut the deficit to 46-42 with 15:22 remaining. Old Westbury closed within four, 52-48, before a 15-4 Rams run brought the lead to 15 with 8:27 left to play.

Farmingdale State led by at least 10 points the remainder of the game en route to the 87-73 victory.

Romero scored a team-high 26 points, while senior guard Nicky Young (Queens, N.Y.) fell just shy of a triple-double with 11 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds and seven steals. Senior forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 14 points (7-of-8) and 10 boards, while sophomore guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) tallied 13 points.

Old Westbury was led by the Skyline Conference's leading scorer senior forward DeAndra Scott (St. Albans, N.Y.) who had a game-high 34 points on 17-of 24 shooting and 11 rebounds.

The Rams next will travel to Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, February 1st at 1:00 p.m.
