Warhawk Women Top Pioneers to Up Home Streak to 12

UW-P held a two point advantage, 16-14 at the 11:04 mark when the Warhawks turned up the pressure and the pace. UW-W outscored the Pioneers 24-6 to finish out the half and head into the locker room with a 38-22 lead.

The Warhawks shot 37% (13-35) in the first half including 5-14 from long range. The Pioneers shot 32% from the field and missed all seven of their three-point attempts in the first 20 minutes. UW-W added 7-10 from the free throw line while UW-Platteville never made it to the charity stripe in the half.

The margin reached 20, the first time, at the 12 minute mark in the second half after an Abbie Reeves three made it 52-31 Whitewater. UW-W's lead would hit 30 twice in the remaining minutes with the Warhawks cruising to a 72-45 win.

Whitewater scored 17 points off the bench in the second half compared to six for Platteville. UW-W shot 33% from the floor but dropped in five more threes in the second 20 minutes. The Warhawk defense held the Pioneers to a 26% shooting percentage in the second half.

For the game, UW-Whitewater was 27-77 from the field (35%), 10-30 from downtown and 8-11 from the charity stripe. Platteville's stat line showed 20-69 (29%) from the floor, 1-15 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the charity stripe.

Stewart led the Warhawks with 18 points, her season high, on 7-11 from the field and 4-8 from behind the arc. Kaitlyn Thill added 11 points, nine rebounds and four assists in the game. Reeves posted 10 points, all coming in the second half of play, and Amy Mandrell grabbed a game-high 11 boards. Platteville's Alyssa Krajco led all players with 20 points.

The Warhawks will head to Menomonie for a 3:00 pm tipoff against UW-Stout Saturday, February 1.
