Three-Point Shooting Carries Griffins to 85-75 Victory Over Giants

La Plume, PA – Gwynedd Mercy University connected on 13 three-pointers in Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Keystone College to overcome Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern)'s game-high 27 points on their way to an 85-74 victory over the Giants.  The Griffins, who completed a regular season sweep of Keystone, improve to 8-10 overall while the Giants drop to 11-7 on the season.  Both teams are now level in the CSAC standings with identical, 5-4 conference records.  
 
Gwynedd Mercy used the three-point shot to build a 48-35 lead at halftime, connecting on nine treys in the opening 20 minutes of the play.  The visitors jumped out to a 21-6 lead over the first 6:48 of Saturday afternoon's game before Alyssa Cuomo (Odessa, DE/Hodgson Vo-tech) connected on back-to-back three pointers to cut Keystone's deficit to 24-17 at the 9:46 mark.
 
The Griffins countered with a 10-2 spurt that pushed their lead to 3019 with 7:18 remaining before the Giants battled back to within eight at 37-29 at the 3:47 mark after Robinson scored on a lay-in.  Gwynedd Mercy again countered, this time with an 11-2 burst, to build a 48-31 lead before Keystone scored the final four points of the half to make it a 13-point game at the break.   
 
Kristen Fuery led Gwynedd Mercy with 14 points in the first half after going 5-7 from the field including a 4-6 effort from three-point range.  Kelsey Yori added 12 points for the Griffins while Nicole Dombrowski had five rebounds to lead the visitors, who shot 47.5 percent from the field in the opening half including a hot, 56.3 percent effort from beyond the arc.
 
Cuomo paced Keystone with 12 points in the opening stanza while Robinson added eight points and four assists.  AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) led all players with six rebounds in the period for the Giants, who connected on 37.5 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half while going 4-10 from three-point land and 7-11 from the free throw line.
 
Gwynedd Mercy pushed their lead to 23 points at 67-44 with 13:16 remaining before Keystone embarked on a 22-7 surge to narrow their deficit to 74-66 with 6:46 to play, but the Giants would come now closer down the stretch as the Griffins secured the 11-point victory.
 
Yori finished with 17 points and five rebounds to lead five Gwynedd Mercy players in double-figures.  Fuery netted 16 points on the afternoon while Jordan Dominic netted 15 points and five boards in the win.  Natasha Matthews tallied 13 points while Dombrowski contributed 11 points for the Griffins, who shot 48.5 percent for the game including a 13-24 (54.2 percent) effort from beyond the arc while going 8-13 from the free throw line.
 
Robinson led all scorers with 27 points to go along with game-highs of eight assists and five steals for Keystone.  Cuomo finished with 17 points while Hayes added her third double-double of the season on 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.  Chantel Blake (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) pulled in seven boards for the Giants, who finished the afternoon shooting 41.3 percent from the floor including a 7-18 (38.9 percent) effort from three-point range and a 15-23 (65.2 percent) day from the charity stripe.
 
Keystone will begin a three-game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to Cairn University for the conference matchup scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Langhorne, PA.
