Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team opened the second half of Capital Athletic Conference play with a 61-49 victory over visiting St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon.  The Saints sweep the Seahawks on the season and improve to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in league play.

Katelyn Fischer led the Saints with a game-high 18 points to go with five rebounds, five assists and four steals.  Miranda Krott added a double-double with 15 points, 13 boards and four steals.

An extremely competitive first half saw 11 lead changes and four ties between the two squads.  Seven of those lead changes came in a five minute span midway through the frame before a Krott layup at the 9:11 mark gave the Saints a 15-12 advantage – their largest of the half.

St. Mary's (6-9, 3-5 CAC) responded with a 7-0 run to take its largest lead, up four at 19-15, before MU rallied right back with a 9-2 spurt to go ahead 24-21 with 2:25 remaining.  Five unanswered points by the Seahawks looked the give SMC a 27-24 lead going into the break but Kievanna Lacey converted an old-fashioned three-point play with .02 seconds left in the half to force a 27-27 tie after one.

Coming out of the break, Marymount opened the second half on a 6-0 run to lead 33-27 but St. Mary's kept fighting and eventually cut the deficit to one point down 41-40 with 11:37 to play.  The Saints clamped down from there and put together a 10-0 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game at 51-40 just under the eight minute mark.

A 5-0 run by St. Mary's then cut the deficit to six before the Blue and White responded with a 9-0 run over the next six minutes to put the game away courtesy of a contest-best 15 point lead with 1:16 remaining.

Shana Lewis led St. Mary's with 15 points.

Marymount returns to the hardwood on Wednesday as it travels to face CAC foe Wesley in Dover, Del.
