Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team defeated Penn State Harrisburg in conference play Wednesday night, overwhelming the Lions 66-28.  The win propels the Saints to a 5-1 record in CAC action, while improving their overall tally to 9-5.

The 38-point margin of victory proves the largest in over four years for the Saints, with a towering 93-38 win over NC Wesleyan on November 20, 2009.  The Marymount defense also proved sound and almost impenetrable Wednesday evening, allowing only 28 points to the visiting Lions – a feat not accomplished since last year in a 57-28 win over Wesley on January 26, 2013.

Three Saints poured in double-digit efforts on the night, with Aileen Maknati paving the way with a game-high 16 points – ten of which came in the game's first four minutes.  Katelyn Fischer contributed 14 points and seven assists, while Kievanna Lacey posted 11 points and eight rebounds.

The first half saw the Saints jump out to an early lead, as a 9-0 run propelled them to a 12-2 cushion at the 15:54 mark.

From there, Marymount would use timely runs to relentlessly build on that lead, capitalizing on saavy defensive stops and Lion turnovers.  The Saints would force a 16-2 run just before half, taking a comfortable 39-12 advantage into the break.

The second half painted a similar portrait to the first, as Marymount would steadily pull away, eventually reaching its impressive 38-point margin of victory.

Kaitlyn Carmo led the Lions with 13 points on the night.

Marymount continues CAC conference play on Saturday as it travels to Christopher Newport. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
