Hot-Shooting Neumann Downs Centenary

ASTON, Pa. – Neumann shot 49 percent from the field en route to an 81-48 victory over the Centenary College women's basketball team in Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Monday night at the Meranda Center.
 
The Knights (7-6, 3-2 CSAC) raced out to a 39-24 halftime lead after making 18-of-29 shots from the floor during the opening 20 minutes. Neumann used a 16-0 run spanning 5:10 to take control of the game in the early going.
 
Centenary (4-9, 2-3 CSAC) closed to within 11 points following a three-pointer from freshman guard Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) at the 4:50 mark, but Neumann quickly responded with the game's next seven points.
 
Sophomore guard Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) buried a triple as the buzzer sounded to close the deficit to 15 at the half.
 
The Cyclones scored six of the first eight points during the second half, all provided by freshman forward Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston), to make the score 41-30; however, the Knights' lead would not dip below 11 for the remainder of the game. A quick 11-0 surge helped Neumann put the game away.
 
Senior guard Klarissa Perry (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) provided a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double along with four steals to lead the Cyclones. Sharr added a career-best 13 points, while George tallied eight points and seven boards.
 
Centenary was limited to 26 percent shooting (19-72) and edged on the glass 50-49. Neumann connected on 33-of-67 shots and tallied assists on 18-of-33 field goals.
 
Johanna Metzger just missed a triple-double with 13 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots, while Lauren Walker led all scorers with 16 points.
 
Centenary plays six of its next eight games in Hackettstown beginning Wednesday against Keystone at 7:00 pm.
