Beavers Fall to Hamline; Wong Named All-Tournament

CLAREMONT, CA -- In their final game of the calendar year, the Caltech women's basketball team fell to Hamline 90-58 on Wednesday at ClaremontMuddScripps.

The Pipers jumped out to a 49-30 haltime lead in large part because of their hot shooting. Hamline coverted 19 of their 34 field goal attempts (55.9 percent) in the opening 20 minutes. They continued to shoot effectively in the second half as the Pipers pulled away. Hamline went 37-for-72 (51.4 percent) from the field en route to the victory.

Hamline took advantage of their size down low as they scored 52 points in the paint. They also held a plus-23 rebounding edge.

Jordan Sammons paced the Pipers attack by recording a double-double. She scored a game high 24 points while tying for game high rebounding honors with 12. Rachel Usgaard also posted double figures in scoring (16) and rebounding (10).

Stephanie Wong played all 40 minutes for the first time this season as she scored a Caltech best 14 points. Esther Du had her second straight game in double figures with a 13-point afternoon. Bridget Connor added an 11-point effort.

It was the Beavers third best scoring effort of the season.

For her performances during the two-day, four-team event Wong was named to the all-tournament squad. She scored 37 points during the two contests.
