George, Perry Lead Centenary Past Cedar Crest

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior guard Klarissa Perry (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) and freshman forward Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) combined for 36 points and 21 rebounds, leading the Centenary College women's basketball team to a 75-32 victory over Cedar Crest on Saturday afternoon at the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center.
 
George scored a career-best 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds for her second double-double, while Perry tacked on 15 points and 10 boards, tallying the fourth double-double of her career.
 
Centenary (4-3, 2-0 CSAC) dominated on the glass, grabbing a season-best 61 rebounds, compared to just 30 for the Falcons (1-8, 0-3 CSAC). The Cyclones also limited CCC to just 19 percent shooting (11-56) and a 1-for-26 effort from beyond the arc.
 
Centenary scored 24 of the contest's first 28 points to seize control of the game. The Cyclones' defense suffocated the Falcons, allowing just one made field goal during the opening 13 minutes as CC built a lead as large as 20 points on two occasions.
 
Cedar Crest battled back with a 9-4 spurt behind eight points from Amber Wehry to close within 30-17 at halftime.
 
George scored the first six points of the second half, starting a 14-1 surge that put the game away for Centenary. Sophomore guard Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) capped the run with a jumper at the 15:24 mark, extending Centenary's edge to 26 points.
 
The Cyclones continued to pour it on as Perry sank back-to-back layups, helping balloon the lead to 30. Sophomore guard Angela Randle (East Orange, N.J./Marist) drained a long jumper to hand Centenary is biggest advantage of the game at 73-30.
 
Centenary connected on 43 percent (29-67) of its shots and made 16-of-21 free throws. Freshman forward Kelsey Barofski (White Township, N.J./Belvidere) pulled in a career-best 13 rebounds, while senior point guard Nicole Collins (Halzet, N.J./Raritan) dished out eight assists and scored six points. Freshman guard Jessie Sharr (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) added nine points and eight boards off the bench.
 
Wehry scored 14 points to pace Cedar Crest, which dropped its eighth-straight game.
 
Centenary is back in action on Monday with a non-conference road game at Moravian beginning at 7:00 pm.
