Cavaliers Extends Win Streak to 7 with 92-43 Road Win

More news about: Cabrini

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Since its season opening loss, the Cabrini women's basketball team has now won seven consecutive games after today's 92-43 victory at Cairn University.  The win keeps the Cavaliers perfect in the Colonial States Athletic Conference at 3-0 and 7-1 overall.

The Blue and White displayed a balanced attack with 14 players marking the scoring column.  Senior Brittany Sandone and juniors Megan Decker led the way with 14 points each.  Senior Annie Rivituso and sophomore Kristina Startare added eight points each.

The Cavaliers wasted no time taking advantage of an undermanned Highlanders squad, scoring 16 of the game's first 18 points.  A keys' lay-up midway through the half increased the lead to 20, an advantage that swelled to 52-20 at the half, as sophomore Dana Peterson found Startare for a three pointer just before the halftime buzzer.

The Blue and White shot over 55% from the floor and surrendered just five turnovers in the game's first 20 minutes.  Cabrini controlled the paint, outscoring Cairn 22-2 in the first half and outrebounding the Highlanders22-9, including eight offensive rebounds which led to 11 second chance points.

While Cabrini's starters played limited second half minutes, the reserves showed no let down, hitting 57.1% from the field.  The Blue and White's paint dominance continued after the break, to the tune of a 20-4 point advantage in the lane and 20-11 rebound edge.

Peterson, senior Maggie McElroy and freshman Meghan Horn chipped in with six points each.  Horn and senior Colleen Stewart led the Cavaliers with five rebounds each, while Startare tallied three steals.

The Cavaliers' 92 point effort marks the first time since the 1998-99 season that the club has surpassed the 90 point plateau.  It last occurred in a 95-70 home victory over Cedar crest College.

E.J. Hartzler led the Highlanders (0-6, 0-3 CSAC) with 13 points.

The Blue and white will break for final exams and the Christmas holiday before returning to action on December 30 when they visit Albright College (4-2).  The nonconference tilt is slated for a 6:30 p.m. tip in Reading, Pa.
