Cyclones Cruise To Victory In League Opener

LANGHORNE, Pa. – Centenary College defeated Cairn for the 10th-straight time as the Cyclones rolled to a convincing 84-29 victory during their Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball opener on Wednesday night.
 
Sophomore guard Ally Fugnitti (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) set career highs with 20 points (8-13 FG) and eight steals, while senior guard Klarissa Perry (Englewood, N.J./Dwight Morrow) also posted a career-best 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting, along with seven rebounds. Fugnitti, whose eight steals were tied for the sixth-highest, single-game total in school history, added six rebounds and four assists.
 
The Cyclones (3-3, 1-0) shot 41 percent (33-80) from the field and commanded the boards by a 47-29 margin, led by freshman forward Kelsey Barofski's (White Township, N.J./Belvidere) 10 rebounds. Barofski added 11 points for the first double-double of her career, while classmate Mallory George (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) reached double figures for the sixth consecutive game, scoring 14 points, and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
Centenary forced 33 turnovers by the Highlanders (0-5, 0-2) and limited them to 22 percent (12-53) shooting. George collected four steals, while Barofski grabbed three. Cairn connected on just 3-of-22 shots from beyond the arc.
 
CC broke open a closely-contested game midway through the first half with a 25-0 surge. Eight different Cyclones scored during the run, which spanned over 12 minutes. The Highlanders missed 17-straight shots and Centenary forced 11 turnovers during that time.
 
Centenary entered halftime with a 46-16 lead and continued to cruise in the second half, leading by as many as 55 points on two occasions.
 
CSAC play continues for the Cyclones on Saturday when they host Cedar Crest at 1:00 pm.
