Brooklyn Falls to NYU

New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball team suffered a 63-43 loss on the road against the Violets of New York University on Tuesday evening at the Coles Sports Center.

BC drops to 3-2 overall on the season, while NYU remains undefeated improving to a perfect 6-0 overall on the year.

The Violets began the game on a 6-0 run to take control of the contest from the opening tip. BC would answer back tying the game on two occasions with the first on a jumper from junior Nacirema Mann (8-8; 13:14) and later on a three-pointer from classmate Carissa Williams (12-12; 10:08). However, the Bulldogs would be unable to take the lead, as NYU never relinquished its advantage. The home team would lead by as many as 10 points twice en route to taking a six-point, 31-25, halftime cushion.

The second half began in similar fashion, as NYU once again scored the first six points of the period to push its lead to 12, 37-25, with 18:03 left in the game. The Violets would lead by double figures the rest of the way en route to its 63-43 victory.

Free throws played a major role in NYU's win, as the Violets took full advantage of the charity stripe converting 82.8% (24-for-29) from the line. NYU shot 32.1% (18-for-56) from the field and just 23.1% (3-for-13) from three.

BC shot 36.4% (16-for-44) from the field and 33.3% (3-for-9) from three. The Bulldogs converted just 44.4% (8-for-18) from the free throw line.

The Violets dominated the glass out-rebounding the Bulldogs 45-28, while also scoring 15 second chance points. NYU also outscored BC 30-12 in the paint and scored 19 points off of turnovers.

Mann led the Bulldogs with a team-high 10 points coming off the bench, while senior Megan Campbell added six points and three blocks also coming off the bench. Williams, junior Nicole Francomano and freshman Tiffany Ruizall finished with five points each, while Francomano also dished out five assists. Senior T'Keyah Francisgrabbed a team-leading six rebounds.

NYU had three players in double figures, led by Megan Dawe's game-high 12 points. Riley Wurtz and Lindsey Oldshue each finished with 10 points. Wurtz also added nine rebounds and six assists to her stat line. Amy Harioka chipped in with nine points coming off the bench going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Friday, December 6th, as the Bulldogs will begin City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play against the College of Staten Island in the battle of the Verrazano. Tip-off at the West Quad Center is scheduled for 5:00 pm with doors opening at 4:15 pm. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free t-shirt.
