DE PERE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team was unable to keep up with St. Norbert College as the Blugolds fell to the Green Knights 69-50 at Schuldes Sports Center tonight.
After the score was tied 2-2 three minutes into the game, the Green Knights went on a 10-0 run and outscored the Blugolds 16-5 until the midway point in the half to lead 18-7. From there, St. Norbert never relinquished a double-digit lead.
Over the first half, the Blugolds scored just 14 points as St. Norbert took a 36-14 lead into halftime.
During the first eight minutes of the second half, the Blugolds outscored the Green Knights 17-9 to get to within 14 (45-31) but that was as close as the Blugolds would get. St. Norbert outscored the Blugolds 24-19 over the final 12 minutes to win by 19.
After shooting just 27.3 percent (6-for-22) in the opening half from the field, the Blugolds went 12-for-26 (46.2 percent) in the second half to finish shooting 37.5 percent for the game, a season-low.
Abby Midtlien (Fr.-Chaseburg, Wis./Westby) led three Blugolds in double figures with 16 points, a career and game-high. Kristin Sahr (Jr.-Stillwater, Minn.) tied for a game-high with five rebounds.
Eau Claire falls to 1-4 on the season while St. Norbert improves to 3-1.
Saturday the Blugolds be at Wartburg College (Iowa) for a game beginning at 3 p.m.
