SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Sophomore Heather Lewis (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored 11 of her team-high 17 points in the second half helping Springfield College rally to beat visiting Babson College, 47-42, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Tuesday night at Blake Arena.

The victory stopped a three-game skid for Springfield, which is now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the league, while Babson drops to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Junior Jamie Bickelhaupt (Brookfield, Conn.) and first-year Lexi Windwer (Milton, Mass.) each chipped in with nine points for the Pride. Bickelhaupt and first-year Ava Adamopoulos (Ludlow, Mass.) tied for game-high honors, grabbing 10 rebounds apiece.

Sophomore Linnett Graber (Roseland, N.J.) led the Beavers with 17 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Junior Lindsey Roche (Arlington, Mass.) contributed six points and sophomore Megan Otto (Sciutate, Mass.) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Trailing 12-9 with just under 10 minutes left in the first half, Babson put together its best offensive stretch of the night, ripping off a 10-0 run to grab a 19-12 lead with 7:54 left before halftime. Graber knocked down a pair of jumpers and sophomores Marissa Cicchetti (Mansfield, Mass.) and Briana Hunt (Newton, Mass.) each hit a three-pointer to give the Green and White its biggest lead of the game.

Springfield held the Beavers to just one field goal over the final 7:54 of the period to pull within 22-21 at halftime.

Lewis scored 10 of the Pride's first 14 points after the break, including a jumper and a pair of free throws to help the hosts take their biggest lead of the game at 35-28 with 12:59 to go. Sophomore Kristen Ferola (Amherst, Mass.) stopped the run with a three-pointer for Babson, and hoops by Graber and first-year Giovanna Pickering (Hull, Mass.) helped the visitors pull within 38-35 with 7:34 remaining.

Springfield, despite committing 30 turnovers on the night and going over 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half, would not allow the Beavers to get closer than three in the closing minutes. Bickelhaupt and Windwer each came through with late buckets, and the Pride made three late free throws to secure its first conference win.

Babson shot just 27.8 percent (15-for-54) from the floor and went just 5-for-18 on the night from the free throw line. Springfield finished the game shooting 40.5 percent (17-for-42) and held a 43-32 edge on the glass.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, December 4, as Babson hosts Wellesley and Springfield travels to take on WPI. Both games start at 7 p.m.
